Le Black Dead Arm, maladie nouvelle à ne pas confondre avec l’esca

Une nouvelle maladie du bois a été identifiée en France en 1999. Il s’agit du « black dead arm », répertorié depuis 1974 dans le monde et associé à des champignons du genre Botryosphaeria. Cette maladie a souvent été confondue avec l’esca car d’abord certains symptômes peuvent se ressembler, ensuite l’arsenite de sodium, efficace contre l’esca, l’est également contre le black dead arm. Les symptômes sont décrits ici sur deux cépages, un rouge (Cabernet Sauvignon) et un blanc (Sauvignon), afin de faciliter l’identification. En effet, la recherche de solutions alternatives à l’arsenite de sodium doit tenir compte de l’existence de deux maladies distinctes. A new wood disease was identified for the first time in France in 1999. Black dead arm, which had been known elsewhere in the world, is associated with fungi of the Botryosphaeria genus. The disease is often confused with esca, owing to the fact that the former shows similar symptoms to the latter and also that sodium arsenite, an effective product for controlling esca, is also effective against black dead arm. The article describes the symptoms on two vine varieties, one red (Cabernet Sauvignon) and one white (Sauvignon), in order to make identification easier. It must be stressed that research into alternatives to sodium arsenite must take into account the existence of two distinct diseases.
